Authentic learning and understand, apply. analyze, evaluate create #change11

An Authentic learning task has to stimulate the students to cooperate and
= understand.
= apply
= analyze
= evaluate
= create
Some of you will recognize Bloom (http://ilearntechnology.com/?p=2973) Maybe Bloom is somewhat outdated, but these overall goals in learning are still with us.
The only one I did not put in the list is ‘remember’

Students must understand a subject when they are applying the knowledge to a situation or a context. They will analyze the knowledge  in order to create something useful with it. The students will evaluate the process and the product. They will evaluate this because they have to publish or present the product to peers or public.  Some educators want the students to write a reflective evaluation, in my opinion a discussion when the task is done will suffice.

I did not put “remember’ in the list. When the task is done the students will remember what they have done. So in Authentic Learning all wishes of Old Bloom are fulfilled.

Just make your choice, like in a library. Autonomy is a returning subject: Autonomy in a MOOC, “we enter a new ‘knowledge domain’ as visitors (and need help and teaching) then as ‘Autonomy’ develops we are residents (who are integrated in the community).” […]
